As the pandemic intensified, the owners of Pool Pad had relocated to Sacramento in search of more space to be outdoors as a family. They found an intriguing property located in the Tahoe Park neighborhood, a unique shaped parcel of land with an existing home, a 3 car garage and a large, L-shaped yard. Since they did not have 3 vehicles to store, the couple immediately thought of transforming the existing rear garage into a flexible space that could double as an extended kitchen, hangout spot open to the yard and guest quarters. BUT first came the pool.
Consulting with designers at Best Practice, the couple made use of the length of the yard to install an Olympic length lap pool. Located to the South of the existing garage, the pool would be proximal to an existing hot tub and next to a raised bed garden. The design of what became the Pool Pad came quickly. A living room on the East side has French doors that open on to a courtyard between the 2 residences, creating an inviting indoor/outdoor connection. A small kitchen occupies the corner, with an awning style window that opens out to a counter where you can sit on a stool and enjoy your lunch next to the pool. Custom cabinetry wraps, housing laundry. The bathroom and bedroom are tucked in the back, providing a private area for guests to use. An outdoor shower near the hot tub clad in tile allows bathers some privacy from the yard. Patio and landscaping wrap the pool, creating a vibrant yet relaxing environment to enjoy while swimming.

The family has a wonderful collection of art and handmade objects (fish pillows!) that are showcased throughout the Pool Pad.
