Best Practice was challenged to bring back to life this untouched mid-century rambler for a young family with two daughters and very colorful taste. Located in Magnolia, the vintage house boasted spectacular views towards downtown Seattle, but was in dire need of updates. The layout was unorganized with rooms that felt small, dark, and disconnected.

The main floor was reorganized around a corner window that looks towards the city view. Walls surrounding the kitchen, living and dining room were removed to create a large, open main floor that takes in this spectacular vista. This new space was further enhanced with a new deck to the South that opens from the dining room with large, accordion style doors.

Custom built-ins were carefully planned out to make the most efficient use of the space.

In order to achieve this much needed restoration, we were respectful of the home’s original character but not beholden to it, and this created an interesting composition of complementary designs that feels unique but also at home in this vintage house.
